Is it possible to make job for only specific part of layout and within constrained area?

Hello,

Is it possible to define job to populate only specific part of the schematic (by sheet/nets/designators) within given area?

I’m looking for various options to place buck controller so that it “fits” and “works”. Is the only viable option to place all the rest manually, and just see how the automatic placement/routing can be done? Or is it possible to define some target area with priorities?

Hi there,

Thanks for the question! Quilter tackles every job as a complete board so there is no native functionality that let’s you just layout a section of the board. We do have some other options that could allow you to focus on specific parts of your schematic. You can take advantage of placement regions in your ECAD tool to force a set of components within a certain sized region on your board. You can read more about placement regions here (Link). You can also specify component proximity constraints where you can define a maximum distance between a set of components (a common use is for bypass capacitors). It is important to note that any components that you preplace on your board file will not be moved by Quilter so in the case of sensitive components, it is common to find a working placement configuration and preplace that section so that the rest of the board can be placed and routed.
